The inaugural APCMS is organised by Elsevier under the auspices of the Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. In conjunction with the Australian’s national science agency the CSIRO, Melbourne is chosen as the inaugural event city as it is the home of the Baker IDI and a hub for scientific research. APCMS will be held on a yearly basis alternating between Melbourne and different cities across the region, involving key opinion leaders in diabetes, cardiology and obesity from the region.
APCMS is organised with a vision to establish a regional community of Asian specialists to guide and improve multidisciplinary patient care in order to reduce the incidence and improve outcomes. APCMS09 encompasses parallel streams covering scientific and clinical aspects of the condition. The streams will cover the latest clinical needs for healthcare professionals in Asia and offer an opportunity to exchange ideas and thoughts that will help inform clinical practice.
International experts will be brought together to address scientific and clinical topics around the metabolic syndrome. Discussion topics will be of pertinent clinical relevance to the situation we live in today. In addition to the didactic lectures, there will be interactive sessions and debates.
